The Christmas and Holiday season can be difficult when those we love are not with us. Many people in the United States have loved ones in the Army, Airforce, Navy or Marines, who have been deployed to the wars in Iraq or Afganistan. Others, mourning the loss of loved ones, may find that the holidays can increase sadness and awareness of loss. My dogs have a running argument about what dog will win the 2009 AKC/Eukanuba National Championship. Red is a border collie. Blue is like some sort of houndog/catahoula concoction. Together they add up to a bunch of dog fun. If there’s one thing that I would tell you — as I show you an ad for a purebred dog show — is that you should always look for a rescue dog when you are looking to add a canine to your household. Blue is a champion disc (frisbee) dog and a darn good guy, and he was a rescue. Red is a purebred and he is completely insane and weird. Bali is the new Sumatran Tiger at the Point Defiance Zoo and Aquarium. He came from the San Francisco Zoo, and he joins his brother, Java, at Point Defiance in Tacoma, Washington. He’s about 11 years old and around 300 lbs. The keepers say he’s very mellow.
